DrPH in Epidemiology - Integrative Learning Experience (ILE) Manual

INTRODUCTION

The DrPH is the professional doctoral degree in public health, designed to produce transformative academic and practice leaders with expertise in evidence-based public health practice and research. These professionals should be able to convene diverse partners; communicate to effect change across a range of sectors and settings; synthesize and translate findings; and generate practice-based evidence that advances programs, policies, services and/or systems addressing population health. DrPH graduates should demonstrate attainment of all core and specialty competencies.
PHSU-Public Health Program Integrative Learning Experience (ILE) for doctoral students in Epidemiology will be the integrating experience required for graduation. It provides an opportunity for students to reflect on, integrate and synthesize the knowledge and skills acquired during classroom and practice experiences, while pursuing their public health degree. ILE for doctoral students includes a comprehensive examination (CE) that will occur after the majority of course requirements are completed, and a dissertation that will occur after all course work is completed. ILE will serve as evidence of compliance with CEPH public health core and concentration competencies.

The Comprehensive Examination is taken during the 1st week of the 3rd trimester of their second academic year. The Dissertation is registered during their III academic year.
The DrPH Public Health ILE process consists of the following steps:
1. Complete general eligibility criteria required for registering in the Integrative Learning Experience.
2. Register for the Integrative Leaning Experiences.
3. Participate in the Integrative Leaning Experiences Orientation sessions.
4. Complete the evaluation requirements for the Integrative Learning Experience.
