MPH 7781 - Risk Communications

The aim of this course is to explain how public health professionals can design and execute communication plans related to either potential or actual hazards (anything that can cause morbidity or mortality). An overview of research findings, theories and applications of health communication and risk communication in public health will be presented throughout the class. This course provides tools and techniques that can be implemented in public health risk- associated situations. The course examines theories of group interaction and mass communication related to community perceptions of public health problems and practices, the impact of new technologies on public health communication, intercultural issues in health communication, among other topics.
