NUR 3131 - Mental Health Nursing


(3 Credits)

This course teaches students to apply and integrate the concepts of therapeutic communication and therapeutic use of self within the context of the nurse-client relationship. This course focuses on the nursing care of individuals and families with mental health issues throughout the lifespan. Mental wellness is viewed as client education, growth, and development. Cultural, ethical, and spiritual influences on mental health issues are considered. Nursing students will focus on integrating the biological, psychosocial, cultural, and spiritual needs of clients with moderate to severe emotional issues. Forty-five (45) lecture hours.
