NUR 4121 - Medical Surgical Nursing II (4 Credits)
Students will gain experience working with adults in the acute care setting and the families of acutely ill individuals. The course builds on critical thinking and problem-solving strategies for caring for adults with acute or complex illnesses and/or injuries. The effects of acute infection are examined through the individual’s developmental stage, culture, and gender. A systems approach analyzes and intervenes in alterations to the individual and family’s health. Clinical experience will include palliative and end-of-life care. Students will be expected to plan, implement, and evaluate comprehensive care plans, including principles of pharmacology, nutrition, pathophysiology, and psycho-social aspects of care. The student will also provide individualized patient and family education to the specific patient situation.In this course, students will demonstrate evidence-based practice while caring for clients with digestive, renal, endocrine, nervous, and skeletal muscle systems health concerns.
