NUR 3123 - Medical Surgical I: Clinical Practice and Simulation (2 Credits)
This course provides students valuable clinical experience and simulated practice in caring for adult and elderly patients experiencing common medical-surgical conditions. Building on previous coursework, students will apply the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for patients with alterations in oxygenation, inflammation, fluid and electrolyte balance, sensory perception, cellular damage (e.g., post-surgical), and reproductive health. Emphasis is placed on evidence-based practice, critical thinking, person-centered care, interprofessional collaboration, and ethical decision-making. Students will also refine their skills in therapeutic communication, care planning, and patient information and resources management. Sixty (60) clinical practice and simulation laboratory hours.
